Your collection lives on your iPhone. Data reaches our servers only when you identify a photo, create an account or turn on cloud backup.
Who we are
WildCatch is published by Tanguy Tahon, entrepreneur individuel (sole trader) trading as Elysium, SIRET 894 541 978 00033, TO ADD: address. We are the data controller. Contact: [email protected].
What stays on your iPhone
Your catches, photos, drafts, energy, quests and settings are stored on your device. Without an account, they never leave it, except for identification (below).
What we process, and why
| Data | When | Why | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| The photo you ask to identify (resized), and your country setting | Each time you choose "Identify with AI" | Suggest the species | Your consent, asked before the first identification |
| A random install identifier, a fingerprint (hash) of the photo and the species suggested | Each identification | Check that a catch you confirm comes from this identification, and limit abuse | Legitimate interest |
| Account: sign-in identifier (Apple, Google or e-mail), username, avatar, friend code | When you create an account | Run your account, friends and leaderboard | Contract |
| Cloud backup: catches, photos, drafts, nicknames, rewards, quiz history and the precise location of your catches | Only if you turn on cloud backup | Restore your collection on another device | Contract |
| Friends and leaderboard: your username, avatar, level, collection totals and XP; for each catch scored on the leaderboard, the species, date, rarity and photo fingerprint (so the same photo cannot score twice) | When you use these features with an account | Show your progress to friends and on the leaderboard | Contract |
| Purchases: an anonymous billing identifier and your purchase history | When you buy or restore WildCatch Pro | Unlock Pro on your devices | Contract |
Location
WildCatch reads your location only while the camera is open, or from the photo itself when you import one from your library, and only if you allow it. It is saved with the catch on your iPhone to build your catch map. It is sent to our servers only as part of your cloud backup. It is never sent for identification, never shown to friends and never used on the leaderboard.
Photos sent for identification
The photo is sent to our AI provider for that single request and is not stored on our servers. We ask the provider not to keep it. You can always search for a species yourself instead.
No tracking, no ads
WildCatch shows no advertising, does not track you across apps or websites, does not use the advertising identifier and contains no analytics or crash-reporting tool.
Who receives data
We never sell your data. We use these providers, each only for the purpose stated:
| Provider | Role | Data |
|---|---|---|
| Convex (United States) | Our server and storage | Account, backup, friends, leaderboard, identification records |
| OpenAI (United States) | Species identification | The photo to identify, without your name, account or location |
| Clerk (United States) | Google and e-mail sign-in | E-mail address, password (handled by Clerk only), sign-in codes |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, App Store payments, maps | Sign-in tokens, purchases, map display |
| Google sign-in, through Clerk | Sign-in information you approve | |
| RevenueCat (United States) | Subscription management | Anonymous billing identifier, purchase history |
| GBIF and Catalogue of Life | Species information | Species names and a country code only, no personal data |
When data is transferred outside the European Union, it is protected by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep data
- Account, backup, friends and leaderboard data: until you delete your account.
- Identification records (install identifier, photo fingerprint, suggestions): deleted automatically, at the latest 48 hours after the identification.
- A catch you delete is removed from your collection at once. Its backed-up photos and location are erased from our servers immediately. Only an empty marker remains, so your other devices remove the catch too, until you delete your account.
- Leaderboard profiles created without an account by earlier versions of WildCatch: hidden from the leaderboard, and deleted after 12 months without activity or when you delete your account on that iPhone.
- Purchase records: as long as required by Apple and by accounting law.
Deleting your account
In the app: Profile → Settings → Delete cloud account. This deletes from our servers your account, your backup and its photos, your friends list, your leaderboard data and what this iPhone sent without an account (identification records, older guest leaderboard profile), and revokes Sign in with Apple. Your collection stays on your iPhone until you delete the app. Deleting your account does not cancel an Apple subscription: cancel it in your iPhone settings.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, to restrict or object to its use, and withdraw your consent at any time. Write to [email protected]. You can also complain to the CNIL (cnil.fr) or your local data protection authority.
Children
TO DECIDE: minimum age (for example: an account requires being 15 or older, or a parent's permission)
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and tell you in the app when the change matters.
